Haven Highlights: Meet Kylie of Skin Klarity
Welcome to Haven Highlights, our series introducing you to the people who make the HOT HAVEN community feel so special.
For this edition, we’re sitting down with Kylie, the San Diego facialist behind Skin Klarity. Her approach to skincare is minimal, intentional, and effective, shaped by her own experience with severe acne and a desire to help others feel informed, supported, and confident in their skin.
1. Where are you from?
I’m from Roseville, a suburban town about eight hours north of San Diego.
2. How long have you lived in San Diego?
I just celebrated my first full year in San Diego at the end of July!
3. What do you love most about living in San Diego?
It feels incredibly open-minded and nonjudgmental. If you have an idea, whether it’s a hobby, business, or wellness practice, you’re encouraged to explore it.
I also love the food, having my favorite musicians play practically in my backyard, and, of course, the sunshine. I’ve disliked the cold since childhood, so living somewhere with consistent warm weather has always been a dream.
4. What inspired you to become a facialist?
In my late teens, I developed severe acne. It was an incredibly isolating experience, and I didn’t feel like I had anyone to turn to for help.
I immersed myself in books, forums, and educational videos, which opened the door to a lifelong passion for skin and internal health. After finding my own path forward, I knew I wanted to help other people feel less alone.
I care for others because I remember what it felt like to struggle without guidance.
5. What do you love most about working with skin?
The clients, easily.
I work with people of different ages, lifestyles, professions, sleep habits, and skin types. Every client’s skin tells a different story, which means I’m always learning.
6. How would you describe your facial style?
Minimal, intentional, and effective.
7. How do you want clients to feel after a facial?
I want them to feel relief. I hope they leave with a better understanding of their skin and realistic recommendations they can comfortably follow at home.
Skincare shouldn’t feel confusing or impossible to maintain.
8. What do you wish more people understood about their skin?
Skin doesn’t exist separately from the rest of the body. Sleep, stress, nutrition, hormones, lifestyle, and overall health can all influence how it looks and feels.
Topical skincare can be helpful, but it’s only one part of a much bigger picture.
9. What skin concern do you especially enjoy helping clients address?
Acne scarring.
Because of my own experience, this is particularly meaningful to me. I love helping clients explore thoughtful, professional treatments that may improve the appearance of post-acne marks and support healthier-looking skin over time.
10. What skincare habit can make the biggest difference?
Be gentle and avoid overdoing it.
Over-cleansing and over-exfoliating can leave the skin irritated and disrupt its protective barrier. More products and more treatments don’t always create better results.
A simple, consistent routine designed for your individual skin is often the best place to begin.
11. What skincare myth do you wish would disappear?
That there’s one universal solution for acne.
Skin is personal, and severe or persistent acne deserves individualized attention. A qualified dermatologist or healthcare professional can help determine the safest and most appropriate treatment plan.
I also encourage people to be cautious about skincare trends. A product or technique that works beautifully for one person may not be right for another.
12. What should someone know before booking their first facial?
It’s completely normal to feel nervous. A facial can feel vulnerable, especially if you’ve struggled with your skin.
Tell your facialist about the products, prescriptions, and treatments you currently use, including exfoliants and retinoids. This helps us safely tailor the experience to your skin.
13. What’s your favorite part of giving a facial?
When a client falls asleep!
Most of my clients nod off because I intentionally create an environment where they can fully relax. You are deserving of a nap.
14. What’s your favorite HOT HAVEN service?
The Lymphatic Cleanse, hands down.
I love having privacy, quiet time, and space to be with my thoughts. I play meditative sounds during my session and leave feeling grounded again.
15. What’s your favorite wellness ritual?
Grounding and spending time outside. I love putting my feet in the grass, getting fresh air, and allowing natural daylight to help set the rhythm of my day.
16. How do you unwind after a busy week?
I’m a nature enthusiast. I love exploring reserves, visiting lakes, and climbing mountains.
17. What would your perfect San Diego day look like?
I’d wake up without an alarm, grab an early lunch at The Wise Ox on El Cajon Boulevard, and take a long walk through Balboa Park.
Then I’d head to Waterfront Park to see one of my favorite musicians and finish the night with friends and food somewhere local.
18. What would you like the HOT HAVEN community to know about you?
I’m a sheltered hometown girl who took a big leap and moved away after 30 years.
I’m incredibly grateful for how welcoming, kind, and friendly the HOT HAVEN community has been. It has been lovely, to put it simply.
